The Grandview House was a mid-century modern classic, designed by Campbell-Hope Klingbell, one of Edmonton's foremost modernist architectural firms. But walking through the house was like stepping back to 1964, the year the house was built. Everything was untouched and original--and showing its age.
Specialist craftspeople restored some of the home's stunning original features such as massive cedar beams, a mahogany feature wall, a terrazzo fireplace hearth and the Vermont slate entry.
We gave the rest of the house a complete update to make it both gorgeous and ready for contemporary living. We opened up the tiny kitchen and created a chef's dream, complete with huge island, six-burner cooktop, double ovens and multiple sinks. We updated styling inside and out. Contemporary details included a floating concrete hearth, glass and stainless railings, Hardiplank exterior siding, a sleek charcoal paint job on the original red brick and a low cedar address wall with LED house numbers. And we added modern conveniences such as a mudroom complete with a dog washing station, smart home technology, additional bathrooms, a new master ensuite and in-floor heating.
